Multicolor Westerns

Multicolor westerns are an ideal way to simultaneously detect multiple proteins closely related in size. Likewise, multicolor westerns allow evaluation of the phosphorylated and/or unphosphorylated state of proteins. Using antibodies with fluorophore conjugates, such as Quantum dots (Qdots), both sets of antibodies can be detected. The Alpha Innotech FluorChem family of imaging platforms integrates multiple filters into the emission filter wheel included in each darkroom component of the system. These filters allow researchers to target specific fluorophores, like those commonly used in multicolor westerns. Each fluorophore can be detected individually in a TIF file, and image files can be overlayed to present the detection of more than one fluorophore per sample. The FluorChem family of images is an ideal system to detect multicolor westerns.
