Gel Shift

A gel shift assay, also referred to as an EMSA is an electrophoretic mobility assay. Gel shift is used to study protein-DNA interactions or protein-RNA interactions. Standard methods for studying transcription factors and gene regulation include gel shift, western blots and reporter gene assays, which are time-consuming, do not allow for high-throughput and provide only semi-quantitative results. Alpha Innotech's Chemiluminescent FAST Transcription Factor Microplate Assays employ a proprietary technology and chemiluminescent detection that offers superior sensitivity, broad dynamic range and excellent reproducibility compared with traditional methods or with commercially available transcription factor EMSA. Our FAST assays do not require radioactivity and results can be obtained in under four hours, which is a great improvement compared to traditional gel shift assays.
